3 Acres on the Lake: DuSable Park Proposal Project, 2000–04

This project began with curiosity about a seemingly abandoned plot of land on Chicago's lakefront, leading to an unofficial call for proposals for how the land could be used to commemorate Chicago's first Black resident Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable (a dedication initiated by Chicago's first Black Mayor Harold Washington that was never realized), and culminating in an exhibition and publication including 65 contributions submitted by Chicago area residents and international artists and architects.

The publication including all 65 proposals and with texts by Patricia Phillips, Christopher Reed, and A. Laurie Palmer, is available through Half Letter Press.
