Fluß der Erinnerung (River of Memory)

1999, permanent public art project for a Senior Citizens' Center in Linz, Austria.  Cement, bronze, glass, text, on a 400 foot long wall, inside and outside.  Curated by Stella Rollig. Installation assistance from Gerhard Baldasti.

Nineteen text excerpts from fiction writers living in the Danube basin create a fragmented historical narrative of daily life in Central and Eastern Europe in the twentieth century as you travel in either direction down the long hall.  A map of the Danube River, scaled and re-oriented to fit the length of the wall, is embedded in the concrete surface behind the panels of glass on which the texts are printed (in German).

Books from which the texts are excerpted are displayed on a separate shelf in the library in the Senior Center, which is also one of the city's public libraries.
