Untitled (Packed Shelves), 1988
Four steel shelving units were packed with sand, turnips, daikon, and unmarked tin cans of food. The turnips and daikon sprouted leaves from the moisture binding the sand in place; as the water evaporated, the sand eddied out onto the floor, growth slowed and then wilted, and eventually most of the contents of the shelves rolled off into the piles of sand on the floor.
